She didn’t speak, she muttered. It seemed like the wonderful powers of self-deception had taught her all too well that she can talk herself out of believing anything. She can’t think herself away from any situation- including this one. She didn’t need sci-fi TV shows or fantasy books to whisk herself away. She could just tell herself that everything was fine- and it would be. I not only thought this was horrible, but I envied it.
